I defined a NVME-oF share on my TrueNas system (25.10.1)
Added related rules on my firewall
Downloaded and installed the ‘StarWind NVME-oF Intitiator’
Installed it on my WIndows11 Pro PC
Defined a portal under Discovery
And watched for the Target to appear …….
And that did not happen …..
I disabled the firewall …. did hot help
Looked in the log (C:\ProgramData\StarWind\NVMeoF-GUI\Logs\NVMeoF-GUI.log)
(so connection to portal fails)
Started Wireshark looking for a cause
And where the StarWind log tells me that it tried to reach the portal ip …. my Wireshark log tells me that there are no packages from my pc in the direction of the portal (my TrueNas system).
Which definitively explains why it can not find the target …..
Does someone understands the problem / know how to solve this !?
Has any one a working NVME-oF setup between TrueNas and a Windows PC !? If so how did you manage that?
I discussed this with StarWind. Together with a StarWind support engineer we did investigate the problem using my network / setup using the actual StarWind 2.0 initiator.
Since I am using the TrueNas community edition, which only support NVME-oF via TCP, we did tests via TCP only.
We did a couple of tests looked at the initiator behavoir and made (wireshark) traces. As a result he StarWind engineer agreed that there is a problem. StarWind will further analyze it.
I am on the list of persons to be informed about about solutions / progress. I will post an update here if there is a solution.
There are people using the driver, so probably the issue is not effecting every one (especially not if they using RDMA)
