Some clarification please… I upgraded from 25.04 to 25.10 yesterday morning. Should my Update Profile still read “Early Adopter” or should it say “Release”?
Hi, I just read that TrueNAS will switch from Incus to Libvirt.
I have no opinion on this (as I have only used libvirt for VMs), but I am curious about what caused this change.
BTW, can Libvirt do unprivileged LXCs?
Yeah, seems like only the beta profiles are offered in the dropdown. The conservative ones do not seem to be available to choose. Maybe fell through the cracks from RC to release.
Nice!
Is the disk spindown issue resolved in this release that surfaced in 25.10rc1?
It should probably say “General” or at least give one the option to choose that. I’m not an early adopter - at least not on my production box which I just upgraded to 25.10 release version. Unfortunately the General profile is not selectable. I don’t expect “Mission Critical” to be selectable though - at least not yet on a .0 release.
I would love a TrueNAS tech talk just on containers (LXC style - not Docker). So many unanswered questions, and scant information about what is going on in this space.
All releases start at early adopter, and then get moved to General. As part of the transition to the new profiles once a release is marked general that option will become available &, if set as your preferred choice, from that point you will only be alerted to the upgrade once a release is tagged as such.(if you want one earlier you can either drop down to early adopter or manually upgrade)
Yes, you are–you upgraded to 25.10 the day it was released; for TrueNAS, that’s somewhere between “early adopter” and “reckless.” iX doesn’t generally clear releases for “general” usage until .2
Smooth update. DirectIO seems to work when tested. And, strangely my qbittorrent custom app that used to just stop working overnight with no logs did not stop working overnight after the upgrade…
BTW: the web site is still missing 25.10.0 as well as 25.04.2.5.
Updates are coming - Thanks!
Weird problem with 25.10: I have mapped a SMB share to Windows drive letter and use Total Commander in Windows for file management.
If I delete a folder from the share’s main folder level, I get blank directory listing in Total Commander and need to use refresh to get the directory listing back. No issues with 25.04 version or previous versions.
What could cause this problem?
Same here! Well, similar, I noticed this when creating a folder. I’m using the Windows 10 built-in explorer.
If I create a folder, I then get a “blank” drive. Even if I hit refresh, It doesn’t work. A few minutes must pass before I can see the contents again.
I had to boot back with the 25.04.2.5 environment. And although the GUI is now throwing some strange errors, at least I can access the SMB share (I use it for video editing, so I need it to be available at all times).
upgrading to 25.10.0 from 25.04.2.5 and the docker service will not start, had to roll back to get my apps back.
Updated one of our servers from 25.04.2.5 to 25.10.0, totally uneventful.
A couple issues regarding the virtual machines; i added VNC ports to several of the vms, and in a couple instances it duplicated the vnc port for a incus vm (in the container/experimental list). Nothing fatal since i keep a list, just changed them to empty ports and moved on.
also on one vm, i left the spice port in place and added the VNC port, and the startup stalled until i removed the spice port. no reason to have both, so no big deal. i tried it on another vm, and both ports worked, so perhaps it was a one off or ?
Pleasant surprise in the VNC display option that was added; the connection survives a reboot! That is a significant improvement over the prior/incus system.
Otherwise, dont notice much of anything different which is good.
One question; i had read that 25.10 would have a tool to migrate incus vm’s to the virtual machine tab - i dont see it: was that delayed or is it a manual process or ? Not a huge problem but it would be nice to have.
[edit] my incus vm’s that were set to autostart didnt.
Thanks for identifying. For problems like these, its great to start a thread in General.
Someone else may have found a solution or may confirm the same issue. If its not a config issue, we then recommend a bug report.
Feel free to post the link to the thread here so that its easy to find.
I had a hiccup in getting the apps to recognize the nVidia 5060 card after I upgraded to 25.10 yesterday and removed the old, now unsupported nVidia 1080 card. The trick as documented in nVidia 1080 video card not detected in Plex fixed the issue for both Plex and ConvertX, but Immich is having issues and needs further troubleshooting. Still…
I believe this is a feature, not a bug.
