TrueNAS Community crashed, now ethernet port doesn't work, no BIOS, no console or webUI

hi everyone,

my first post here, im relatively new to networking and such.
my NAS system runs TrueNAS Community (latest version):
Fujitsu D3161 Motherboard
Intel i5-3470
24GB RAM

TrueNAS on 256GB SSD and running makemkv, jellyfin, immich and tailscale, connected via lan cable to my wifirouter and setup via static dhcp
everything has been working fine for the past 6 months

Last night when i tried accessing my immich library, my server became unresponsive (no access to apps, fans ramped up and slowed down every 3 seconds), so i shut it down and went to sleep.

this morning when trying to reboot it, the ethernet port became unresponsive, no lights, not on the router not on the server. when trying to troubleshoot and plugging in a displayport cable into the server (also has vga output, i have no monitor or adapter for that) i got no output, when trying to reboot and getting into bios that also doesn’t work (display doesnt detect input signal).

So now im here without access to webui, local console or bios.
already tried using a different lan cable and different port on the router, still ethernet port seems unresponsive, no access to local ui or bios is probably due to video output being set to vga allthough before (when installing truenas) it was working over displayport.

any ideas on what i can do to regain access?
i dont want to loose the data on the harddrives in the server since i spent a lot of time ripping blurays and dvd onto it

This sounds more like a hardware issue then truenas related.
Before digging more into the software side you’d have to make sure that the system actually boots and rule out any hardwae issues, e.g. fried motherboard and/or processor…

Try resetting the BIOS. Unplug the server from power and remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds.

how would i do that now, without any video output or access to bios?

First thing i would do is strip down the sytem to the absolute bare minium, no disks connected, only 1 stick of ram igpu instead of a dedicated gpu (if you were using one) and see if the sytem posts and you get a video output. if that fails you’d have to try different hardware if available… (i know it’s unrealistic to have new hardware on hand).

Edit:
If you have at least 1 more pc you could do a quick test to see if your truenas boot drive is ok by installing it in the second machine and trying to boot into truenas. If that works it’s unrelated to truenas.

i just tried this and it seemed to do the trick  videooutput is back to display port, ethernet works again and i have access to gui and everthing else

thasnk you very much
