The web interface could not be accessed (new install)

so this is the first time making a NAS or even anything related to networking. I have installed it using a usb stick on a ssd. but everytime I reboot the nas after removing the stick I get the wev ubterface could not be accessed and beneath that like 10 settings.

I have tried different things like reinstalling checking for internet connection trying different cables. But did not go to far as I am new to these things. I did however log into the wifi router and saw that the fysical cable does not seem to be recognized. (next to that cable is the one for a smart tv and that has his light on with text about the internet speed)

specs are:

16 TB HDD ( 4 x 4 gb)

256 gb SSD (on which the OS was installed)

i5 9600k

no gpu

gigabyte b360m d2v (motherboard)

So does anyone have any suggestion?

do I need like some seperate hardware for internet connecetion even though there is an internet port on the motherboard itself?

Do you have any proof that the NIC works on this computer? Different OS, Live Linux CD?

This could also be a dead port on your wifi router. You can try a different port, like unplugging the TV and plugging in your TrueNAS setup there.

well that is the problem I dont know if the NIC works on the NAS computer, I do think it works since the motherboard is new. other than that I tried other ports and different cables (that definitly work) on the router does not change the outcome.

Lets say the NIC on the NAS computer is broken how can I check that?

oh and there is 18 gb ddr4 on there.

Create a bootable USB of any Live Linux version and boot that. If it works and gives you internet access then the NIC should be working.

I couldn’t tell what exact Realtek NIC is on that motherboard by the specs I saw online. It may help if you post back the chipset model that is reported. It is possible that specific one isn’t working with TrueNAS.

Other than that, look for your introduction email and do the TrueNAS-Bot tutorial to get your forum trust level up. You should be able to post images afterwards.

sorry if this is a stupid question but which linux operating system do you recomand and do I not have to go the settings of the computer to find the chipset model?

I don’t think it matters as long as the distro has a Live feature that runs without installing.
Ubuntu could work but it looks like you have to go through part of the setup for keyboard and localization and then select Try Ubuntu to run off the USB install stick.

it looks like the problem is the nic because with linux mint I also cant connect to internet even with cable. I wil order a new part and try this again. thanks for the help
