Truenas core and transmission plugins failed

Hello, I’m having a problem with Truenas Core. My Transmission plugin no longer works since the latest update 13.0-U6.8. Downloads wouldn’t start. I tried uninstalling the plugin, but I couldn’t reinstall it. I got this error message:

Error: Transmission had a failure Exception: RuntimeError Message: Last 10 lines: ld-elf.so.1: /lib/libcxxrt.so.1: version CXXABI_1.3.11 required by /usr/local/bin/transmission-daemon not found /usr/local/etc/rc.d/transmission: WARNING: failed to start transmission sed: /usr/local/etc/transmission/home/settings.json: No such file or directory transmission not running? (check /var/run/transmission/daemon.pid). Partial plugin destroyed

Can you help me? Thank you.

If you wanna use jails you have to switch to 13.3 version. And plugin no longer works since 13.2 jails goes EOL (a years ago?).

Another option Is to sisegrade to Scale, with docker, but consider It after read all the documentation about (can be a painfull operation if you don’t follow well the preparation step)

Thanks for your help. I’m not an expert. I tried the command: “iocage fetch” and chose 13.4-release. This didn’t fix the problem. Is this what you wanted me to do? Thanks

I just did a test with release 13.5 and it doesn’t work. At 90% of the installation, it says "/usr/local/etc/rc.d/transmission: WARNNG: failed to start transmission.

Maybe i was not enough clear but i was pointing to the 13.3 version of Core.
ATM you cant run 13.4-5 jails on your host.
The 13.3 version instead should work with the 13.5 jails with no issue (according to what Core users say).
If you switch to 13.3 you have also to consider to apply manually a patch that has been made but never released, to avoid the system Scrubs every pool ignoring the threshold

I think I don’t understand. I have the latest version of Truenas Core 13.0-U6.8. Are you talking about a Truenas Core 13.3 version, or the RELEASE 13.3 ?

Core have a 13.3 train, released a year ago when (to be precise) 13.2 jails gone EOL, to let people continue using jails.
But after a year, you really have to consider a sidegrade

Wasn’t the update to 13.3 only available via manual update file and not via GUI?

Yes. iX released it, actively discouraged its use, and then acted shocked when almost nobody actually used it.

@JAFFRE, plugins are long since dead (not that they were ever particularly viable in the first place), and CORE is circling the drain. You’d almost certainly be better off moving to SCALE/CE and using its apps, or better yet, learning Docker enough to manage your own Compose files.

But with that said, if you want to stay on CORE, and you want to continue to run Transmission in a jail, you need to:

  • “Upgrade” to CORE 13.3, which is a complete dead end (while iX have yet to admit 13.0 is EOL, they’ve directly said that 13.3 is)
  • Create a jail with FreeBSD 13.5
  • Install Transmission in that jail, either manually or using one of @victor’s scripts

Thank you very much for your help. I don’t have enough knowledge to do this. My server is used for a lot of data, with Plex and Transmission. Right now, I can’t afford to do anything. I’m going to try it with another machine to familiarize myself with Truenas Scale. It’s true that with Truenas Core, I had a lot of problems, which took time. Maybe Truenas Scale works better.
Do you have any links or tutorials you could give me ? Thank you.

I installed Truenas Scale on a machine to do some testing. There are a few changes but it works. I installed Transmission and it works. For virtual Windows, it works, small problem with the video quality, very slow. I saw that it was possible to put a real video card for virtual Windows, to try. I still have Plex, to see. For the moment, I write my data in a safe place before taking the big leap.
