TrueNAS nextcloud vs Nextcloud plain

hello all

i choose TrueNAS because it is the prefered method to run nextcloud.

the question: what is the difference between the nextcloud installed over the TrueNAS app or seperatly ? as i understand its just the shares which are mounted in to nextcloud. but can the shared managed over nextcloud ? (the nextcloud share system is not as advanced as the nextcloud shares)
can somebody clear the smoke plz
thx to all

Huh? In what way do you understand TrueNAS to be “the preferred method to run Nextcloud”? Are there, perhaps, some sources you can give indicating that this is the case?

That is a great question because…it just plain isn’t.

@pille999 if your main goal is to run nextcloud I would very much recommend taking a look at the system requirements and installing a classic LAMP bases on that.
I’d personally choose Ubuntu 24 as a base but that’s a matter of personal preference and often discussed religiously.

A TrueNAS machine may very well serve the storage for the Nextcloud, maybe via NFS and is of course capable to run a Nextcloud via Docker but it is not “the preferred method”.
