TrueNAS Scale 25.10.1 (fresh update last night)

I have waited patiently for Scale to catch up with Core on Transfer Speed. Obviously the software isn’t anything unknown or magic. I have a HP DL380g8 and it only does 12MB/sec compared to a Core machine that does about 10 X faster. Could one of your coder’s incorporate the correct driver in the next update to remedy this. I’ve got Proxmox almost ready to take over, and it appears to transfer at the faster rate.(120 MB/sec) so if you guys fail, I’ll likely abandon what could be a good relationship with TrueNAS.

Been using scale since it’s first beta in 2022 and never had speed issues

It’s unfortunate that you’ve run into an issue. Whatever the cause is - it doesn’t appear to be a wide-spread one so troubleshooting it would require more than the equivalent of “it doesn’t work”.

Good luck with whatever you end up doing.

  1. There’s nothing stopping you from remaining on Core.
  2. What is broken that’s eating all your speed? Network, LSI driver, what?

They’re gonna ask the same stuff although if you file a bug report on that box running Scale, you can send a chunk of data that will include your hardware.

Are you actually compaing two different machines here?
I mean 12MBps is very slow of course but are you really talking about two different machines or just the same machine running CORE or SCALE?

Also like @afrosheen said - which driver do you mean? Have you found the root of the problem?

The post as a whole just seems basically rude… I mean “if you guys fail, I’ll likely abandon what could be a good relationship with TrueNAS” - wtf?

12 MB/s is ~ 100 Mbit/s, it seems to me something is negotiating at that speed. First thing I would check is the UTP cable and assuming it has a minimum of 4 pairs (8 wires) to check if it’s broken. Doesn’t seem like a TrueNAS problem imho.

We are still assuming we know what this “speed” is related to. Ethernet, or sata, or sas, or smb, it’s still a mystery.

Can you at least agree that it’s fun?

Just go read some other posts by dhenzler under their account activity.

Since TrueNAS SCALE 25.10.1 doesn’t exist yet, I don’t see what the point of this thread is.

Hmmm! Got it !

It isn’t hardware.
The HP Servers I have are all same vintage and firmware is identical.

Thats a developer nightly build… nothing thats officially released

I like core but nobody is stepping up to maintain it. My attempts to hack it so stuff can be added or work with newer aps simply fails.

However not believing in updating for updating sake… It works.

Can you show some iperf3 results please?

To sum it up, you’re evaluating TrueNAS using a pre-alpha version that is likely months away from release.

Not to mention the way you worded your post, with undertones suggesting the TN devs owing you something.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Keep that in mind when casting judgement on the Proxmox devs in the future.

You can take a look at https://www.zvault.io/
It’s an attempt to keep up the FreeBSD version of TrueNAS.

I mildly inconvenienced my VMs for this.
