Updating TrueNAS CORE 12.08-U8.1 to 13.3?

What are the chances of smooth and painless upgrade from TrueNAS CORE 12.08-U8.1 to 13.3, any suggestions?

I’m currently running the following Plugins, Plex Server, radarr, sonarr, Sabnzbd.

I am reading up on this and about to take on the task. It does say you need to first get to 13.0-u6.2. Then to 13.3.

Will report back.

My strong suggestion… DO NOT UPDATE THE ZFS FEATURES !!!

this will prevent you from rolling back to an earlier version. Only update the feature set a few months after all has been working fine, and then you don’t even need to update if there is no added feature you need.

@medics.owen Did you move from 12.08-U8.1 to 13.0-U6.2, and then to 13.3?

I still haven’t made the move.

Yes, did exactly that. I read your first post again. Want to clear one thing is that you are running Plugins, which is different than mine. I am running container Jails.

From OS perspective. All worked fine.

TrueNas 12.08-u8 → 13.1 via Web Gui update. Select a different release train.

From my research. You won’t need 13.3 as it contains fixes for Jails, and VMs.

You will be good staying at 13.1 if you don’t use those features. 13.1 is the official supported last version of TrueNas Core.

13.3 is an open source community supported version has a few targeted fixes. Enterprise hardware and officaial TrueNas from iX uses 13.1 as their last TrueNas version.

Plan some time in the future 2025 or 2026 to move things to TrueNas Scale.

Thanks for the update.

What apps did you have running in Jails in 12.08-U8.1? Those didn’t move over to 13.1 without issues did they?

I have Plex, reverse-proxy(nginx), and nextcloud.

Plex worked fine, reverse-proxy worked fine.

Nextcloud I need to update PHP version.

OS on 13.3
All my Jails are running on 13.4 now.

Sounds like pretty much a no-brainer. I should just hit the button.
