Our company often deals with second-hand mechanical hard disks HDD, and we need to test the hard disks to ensure that they are working properly. My idea is to use Truenas to build a testing system. Do you have any suggestions for this? (Usually a large number of hard disks are tested together)
I am not sure what features TrueNAS offer that makes it especially suitable for this task.
To me it seems like a lot of overhead for what you are after.
Any *nix OS can likely run badblocks
or equivalent on connected devices.
badblocks can test both the ability to write and then read back the data.

Yes, I also have a headache, not knowing what kind of system to use for batch testing hard drives.
There’s stuff like this script:
Even includes a tutorial video.

Okay, there’s really nothing to build on there so, good luck I guess.
