16TB drive recommendation

I’m planning on building a new pool. I’m trying to figure out which drives to get. I found a good deal on the WD Ultrastar (Amazon.com: Western Digital WUH721816ALE6L4 3.5" 16TB SATA 6Gb/s7.2K RPM 512M 0F38462 512e/4Kn HDD : Electronics) but I’ve never used them. I checked out the BackBlaze latest reliability report and they seemed to use a bunch of those specific 16TB drives with good results. I also looked at the Seagate Exos that they used and its a bit more …

In the past I’ve used Seagate Ironwolfs, so should I go with those? I’ve heard good things about WD Red’s too …

thoughts?

Over the last 8 or so years I’ve used the 8TB, 10TB, 12TB, 14TB and 18TB version of this drive albeit the SAS version at scale and I have found them to be very reliable.

Whatever NAS-grade HDD comes out cheaper…
Ultrastar is HGST line, which WD also rebrands as WD Gold; if anything, these are a cut above Red Pro. The only point to be aware of, if one intends to use the drives in a consumer enclosure, powered by standard SATA power connectors, is that HGST strictly implements “3.3V power disable”.
