9300-8i Firmware

Hi,

I just bought a 9300-8i HBA, but I can’t find the correct firmware configuration. My initial firmware was:

Controller Number : 0
Controller : SAS3008(C0)
PCI Address : 00:2C:00:00
SAS Address : 56C92BF-0-0047-AA03
NVDATA Version (Default) : 0B.02.00.00
NVDATA Version (Persistent) : 0B.02.00.00
Firmware Product ID : 0x2221 (IT)
Firmware Version : 12.00.00.00
NVDATA Vendor : INSPUR
NVDATA Product ID : INSPUR 3008IT
BIOS Version : 08.29.00.00
UEFI BSD Version : 14.00.00.00
FCODE Version : N/A
Board Name : INSPUR 3008IT
Board Assembly : INSPUR
Board Tracer Number : N/A

And now I have cleaned and flashed it according to several guides I found:

Controller Number : 0
Controller : SAS3008(C0)
PCI Address : 00:2c:00:00
SAS Address : 56c92bf-0-0047-aa03
NVDATA Version (Default) : 0e.01.30.28
NVDATA Version (Persistent) : 0e.01.30.28
Firmware Product ID : 0x2221 (IT)
Firmware Version : 16.00.14.00
NVDATA Vendor : LSI
NVDATA Product ID : LSI3008-IT
BIOS Version : N/A
UEFI BSD Version : N/A
FCODE Version : N/A
Board Name : INSPUR 3008IT
Board Assembly : INSPUR
Board Tracer Number : N/A

Is this firmware reliable? Is it the latest version, or is it known to have issues? I’m running TrueNAS SCALE with a temporary setup of 4×2TB SATA drives, and I’m building a new pool with 6×4TB SAS drives.

My card is exactly this:

We have a number of Dell HBA330 and Dell “12GB SAS HBA” cards which are just the LSI 9300-8i or LSI 9300-8e with Dell’s branding, firmware, and a slightly larger heat sink. Our firmware is currently at 16.17.01.00 or 16.17.00.05. I can’t remember which version it is off the top of my head, but there is a firmware version released a few years back, that can cause premature wear and failure of SAS and SATA SSDs. Broadcom and the subsequently Dell, released a high priority firmware update to fix the problem. It’s worth looking into.
