Hi
I have a very old truenas system up and running and has been for a few years now. Today I decided to connect my nas directly to my pc via ethernet cable with the result that I can no longer see my smb share.
I tried a lot of different smb protocols and acl permissions. Before trying iSCSI which works just fine but I want to access the files I already have on my nas.
What information do I need to provide? I’m the kind of truenas user that needs guides to do everything, but I’m not afriad to to read documentation, I just don’t know where to start as I haven’t found anything regarding my particular setup, guessing it’s not very common.
Are you able to access the WebUI?
yes
Try restarting the SMB service.
Thank you I have already tried that a few times now, after trying out different options such as enabling SMB1 support and NTLMv1 Auth among other things.
Everytime tried something that didn’t work I undid the change back to where it was when it was working.
Can you connect via IP address?
If I type the ip address with the port it just opens up the webui
That’s not how you connect to an SMB share in windows. Use file explorer and type in \\ip of server
holy **** that works.
any ideas why it doesn’t show up when I just use the file explorer and look in network?
Because that relies on one or more broadcast protocols and you’re directly connecting to the server.
Well, wish I asked a few hours ago instead of scouring the web for possible solutions. Thanks a lot for your assistance I really appreciate the help, now I can reach my files.
Try this method on your Windows machine:
It is a life saver!
