Hello. Just a TrueNAS newb here. So, I’m building TrueNAS with 8 HDDs in RAIDZ2 that are stacked vertically in my case. I would like the drive at the top to be Drive1 and labeled accordingly all the way to the bottom for Drive8. In this way, if notifications are set in TrueNAS, and one of the drives decides to begin to go bad, notifications will tell me which drive I need to replace…so if the drives are numbered appropriately, I know which drive to hotswap out. Does TrueNAS have the ability to label disks in this manner? Thank you.
Short answer - no.
I suggest you go to Failed disk and frustrated with how immensely difficult it is to identify it - TrueNAS General - TrueNAS Community Forums where you will find a significant discussion on this topic, including lot of user examples…

Hmmm, how unfortunate. I wonder if the TrueNAS developers have thought of this idea? Just a thought.
