Just updated to Fangtooth and I am trying to add a Windows 11 VM. When I boot to the installer it’s asking for drivers. I assume someone figured this out? Thanks for any help!
Ill take a look, thanks!
Seems overly complicated to get Windows running vs before, damn
It is. There are both upstream improvements in Incus and planned changes in TrueNAS that should hopefully make this easier over time though.
I tried injecting the drivers via NTLite, could not get it working. I am sure there will be a video with the exact steps at some point soon. Not major, it’s just a VM I like to have to be able to remote in if my desktop is turned off
You might look into setting bios settings on that desktop to turn on wake on lan, and then if you are connected via ethernet, you can do a custom app install of gptwol (a docker container that does wake on lan) to wake it remotely through tailscale.
Then you can turn on your desktop remotely and in about 30 seconds, remote into it.
Wake on LAN is turned on and I do use it from time to time. However, I want something just sitting there that I can remote in to as well.
did you figure this out yet?
I gave up and put Ubuntu on it. There might be some good videos on how to do it now, have not looked
I installed Windows 11 with 25.04.2 today.
1.I created a zvol for Windows 11
2. Downloaded Windows 11 install
3. Created the VM selecting secure boot and TPM and used the windows install. Selected Pro
4. When the install hit the screen that wanted network I Pressed “Shift + F10”
5. In Command prompt typed OOBE\BYPASSNRO and Enter
6. Finished installing Windows
7. Created passthrough for a usb drive
8. Copied latest Virtio-Win iso to usb
9. Once windows completed I opened the Virtro-Win ISO and installed all the missing drivers.
10. Windows has no errors in the device manager
Hopefully this helps people to get a working Windows 11.
