Home Assistant use IP to host?

Yeah I was thinking about just making an instance for HA OS. It seems to be the wait to go and it will be on the main subnet. Going to play around and try and get it installed.

Wait for the release of 25.04.2 before you do that.

I was just reading on that. Looks like they are going to add back the old VMs but they are keeping the new ones too.

I think at the end of the day I can back up HA before I update. Or I can install HA and learn and start fresh after .2 is released. Make my mistakes now LOL

With the current Incus based VMs you will not be able to place the Zvol for the virtual disk where you want it as far as I read on this forum.

I’d definitely wait, then create a Zvol and dd HAOS to it, then create the VM the old fashioned way.

The upside: Home Assistant native backup and restore works perfectly most of the time - I did it multiple times and never had a failure.

The simple and easy and permanent way that handles all updates and backups and addons and networking, etc, is to use HAOS in a VM. That’s what HomeAssistant recommends, others have their own ideas around the internet and a million ways as you say but that’s the way they say to do it so my opinion is go with what the authors say. I know it’s frustrating when trying to learn and see 10 million options, but the tie breaker is to go to the authors or companies site.

If you choose the HAOS route, a guide is available to assist you if you need help transferring the HAOS image to your ZVOL.

I’m also an advocate for running haoss in a VM. Of course the TrueNAS VM situation is a little fluid at the moment, so you’d best wait a few more days until 25.04.2 , then have at it.

My setup (haoss in a VM) has been very stable, reliable & fully functional in terms of networking. Easy.

Thanks all! I have HS OS installed on a VM to play around with it. Was easier than it looked in the docs. Going to see what’s up, what’s what. If I have to back up and restore when .2 comes out, I will. Going in thinking its a test VM right now.

I did it also this way. Installed HAOS in a VM. And set up a Bridged Network. And then played in the Backup from 24.x to 25.0.1. worked perfect for me.
