How can I update rclone on TRUENAS-MINI-3.0-X?

Hello does anyone know how I would update rclone on TRUENAS-MINI-3.0-X? The version installed is outdated and it doesn’t seem to auto update when i run the “check for Updates” option in the GUI.

I have tried to update it through the shell console using the cmd “rclone selfupdate” but it gives me an error “file is not writeable run as root”. When i try to run as root using sudo it gives me another error “user root is not allowed to execute”.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which version of Truenas is installed core or scale?
If core, which version?
If scale, which version?

Version:

TrueNAS-13.0-U6.7

Its Core

Problem is, Truenas is designed as an appliance and it’s not supported to try and manually update single packages. They get an update when the base os gets an update when you apply an update from the GUI. Try the manual update file for core 13.3 or side grade to scale.

Bummer. So whats the difference between the two?

See Release notes for Core 13.3 series. TrueNAS Scale is based on Linux, not BSD and is where almost all the development is going on. Is you system just used for NAS and file sharing or are you running VMs and/or FreeBSD Jails?

Next version of TrueNAS Scale should be an direct upgrade path from Core To Scale, if you are just using it for NAS and file sharing. Advanced featured like BSD Jails would have to be recreated with the new functions in Fangtooth, 25.04, set to hit release around April?

Core 13.3 is the last release of the BSD based version and essentially EOL.
Scale is in activele development, based on Debian linux and and, as of the last release has native docker support for apps/container
