I’m currently running Fangtooth and have stumbled across a few apps that let you allocate IP’s to them (as long as your host has some IP’s in the alias list). I’m going to be migrating from Core, which had a lot of jails, each with their own address.
Is there a page or post I can follow to see which apps have been updated to let us set an IP now? Does ixsystems plan on adding this feature globally to all apps?
Less important question. After deploying an app that has a gui, the http or https or gui link in the app interface lets you open that app with one click. The default is the host ip plus whatever new port your app added. This doesn’t seem to track if you assign an IP to the app. Is this another nut to crack before this gets deployed more widely for the release? How can I fix it by hand (if it’s possible) for the apps I’ve assigned an IP?
Thanks and sorry if this has been asked before but Google has some black holes on this subject.
As indicated in the Feature Request thread, apps can have their own IP address right now:
Install the offcial Portainer app, create a mcvlan or ipvlan through Portainer, and then install and manage further apps through Portainer.
Alternatively, if you master YAML, you may instead install to manage your apps. Or create the macvlan/ipvlan through the command line.
There is a note here and in the 25.04 release notes article that should answer most of your questions. The short answer is apps added to the catalog after December 24, 2024 currently support the option, earlier apps will be migrated to support it on June 1,2025.
Guess I’m gonna do this myself since there are vagaries and timelines. So far, I only use a handful of apps on the RC, but these are good to go to assign an IP (from a host pool). Edit: updated the list. Again, not exhaustive, just stuff I use.
