Marvell 88SE9215 and SATA SSD's not showing

Hi all.

I got this Marvell 88SE9215 4 port SATA adapter with 4 SATA SSD¨s.

The adapter shows just fine, but the disks nowhere to be found.

Any help appreciated.

Do the new ssds show in the bios and are just missing from the OS? In general, you should choose a HBA and not a SATA adapter.

What’s all the noise about HBA’s, and why can’t I use a RAID controller?

Multiply your problems with SATA Port Multipliers and cheap SATA controllers

No. Nothing in BIOS either.

I assume you didn’t just connect the drives via SATA cables, but also supplied power to them properly.
If that’s the case, I’d say there might be an issue with the SATA adapter card.
If you have the possibility, you could try testing it in another system where you have a free slot available, before you RMA it

Personally, I wouldn’t even RMA the adapter, I’d just return it & grab an HBA. IF the drives detected by bios when connected to motherboard

Yes. Powers connected, tried different PCI-E slots … meh.

Any suggestions for a working 4 port SATA SSD HBA ? ( Home use, cheap that is )

Usual advice is a 9200 or 9300 series LSI / Broadcom card. Art of the Server on eBay is one trusted source. That should get you flashed with the correct firmware and ‘IT Mode’. A plain HBA and no RAID features. You probably will need to add a fan blowing on the heatsink. Docs state 200 linear feet per minute in servers.
