I do not question the 2 GB buffer space. But it no longer serves as possible swap. The question is whether CE still offers to create a swap partition on sufficiently large boot devices during installation—and thus whether a plain 100 GB oldie would be better than a 16 GB M10 for this purpose.

Under Credential > Users search your user fillg1 and go edit… What Is set under Shell setting? You can adjust It here in case

NVMe in a USB adapter, small regular hard drive will work also. You can repurpose old laptop hard drives but it’s just slower.

Design of the boot drive being separate is a design choice and I don’t see it changing for TrueNAS.
