Mini xl+ 2022 network was up and working now no web interface no network connection

My Mini XL+ has been running fine since 2022. It stopped connecting to my PC and Zorin desktops. I had been recording and saving some TV shows as usual. Rebooting and resetting my router results are the same. The XL+ is as equipped from iX systems running v13. Any ideas?

Are you able to login to the XL+ from the console or IPMI? We need to see if it’s a complete hardware failure, or something less drastic.

I tried logging in through the System Management serial port using a black cable marked NAS110 to a Zorin 18 laptop running PuTTY. PuTTY returned a fatal error, no route to host. Did I do it right?

No, the serial port needs a USB serial dongle and PuTTY in serial mode. Can you connect a keyboard/mouse and monitor to the XL+?

Thank you. Yes, I’m using a wireless KB.

That won’t work. There’s no Bluetooth on the XL+. You’ll need a wired USB keyboard and mouse.

Here’s the manual on using the IPMI port. The IPMI port should come up on DHCP, but you may need to look at your router to see what IP was assigned.

There are lots of wireless keyboards/mice that don’t use bluetooth, and instead come with their own USB receivers. But the display is, of course, the bigger issue.

True, but I’ve always found they need to be paired in Windows first. Getting them to play nice in a FreeBSD-based system like Core is always tricky.

This is likely the IPMI port and needs to be connected to your router. You then log into the IPMI interface’s web address, and from there you can reach the IP KVM to get to the server console.

We must have been dealing with very different things, then–the ones I’ve used have just been “plug in the receiver to a free USB port, turn on the keyboard, done.” To the OS, it looks like any other generic USB keyboard and mouse.

IPMI may well be the easier way to go, but a wireless keyboard (the mouse will, of course, be useless) ought to work just fine–if OP can connect the system to a display.

Very likely. I’ve only had to deal with the Logitech Unifying Receivers, which are a proprietary mess.

I’ve got the wired kb and the manual.

Btw I also have a monitor on the XL+ and rebooted the XL+.

Does anything show on the monitor?

Yes. The screen ends with the console setup commands

OK, so the system as a whole is operational. Good. Does it show an IP address? What happens if you drop to the shell and ping google.com?

Does the console menu show a configured IP address? Did the default route disappear?

Console Setup Menu | TrueNAS Documentation Hub

Yes. It’s the same IP address I’ve been using all along.

OK, then are you able to ping your router and PC from the console menu shell? Have you tried replacing the network cable to your XL+?
