I have now installed the 10Gb nic into my desktop and the file transfer speed is now just over 200 MB/s, and iperf3 shows speeds of over 8Gbits/sec.

I removed/deleted the init script which I used for 2.5Gb as I now want the full 10Gb

So that is much faster/better than just 75MB/s file transfer with a 1Gb nic.

Out of interest I connected the 2nd rj45 port on the nic in my desktop to the 2nd rj45 port on my TrueNAS server. I keep getting messages telling me that ‘the connection failed’. Do I have to do something like asign an ip address or??

After I read about doing what I did , I thought it would improve file transfer as bit more.

Just use one 10Gbps connection per computer. 200 MB/s is just 1600 Mbps so you are nowhere near using up your 10Gbps connection

This is what I got with two computers connected over 10Gbps with fiber. This is default network settings. No messing with Jumbo frames, etc.
