S.M.A.R.T. Test Results Indicate Read Failures

Hi,

I hope someone can help.
I received this message from the S.M.A.R.T. test and would appreciate any recommendations on what to do besides replacing the disk.

None. If it’s consistently failing SMART self-tests, as yours is, it’s time to replace the disk. Though running long self-tests daily is kind of excessive.

The disk is still quite new, I bought it on March 22, 2022, from Amazon.

Is there any chance Amazon might replace it?

just saw, 3-year limited warranty

Not in .us; possibly in .eu somewhere. But WD should, I’d expect, as you’re still (barely) under three years.

Who knows whether Amazon mishandled the drive before or during shipment.

I bought 5x 4TB Ironwolfs off Amazon, and they arrived without any protective packaging in an A1 paper envelope not marked as fragile and thrown over the gate.

I wasn’t going to trust my data to drives that had been mistreated and they went straight back - and Amazon promised to send them to be manufacturer refurbished, but the marketplace vendor who I followed up with whose drives they were told me that they were back on sale to another customer within a day.

I will never buy drives from Amazon again - their staff are simply not trained enough and not paid enough and put under too much time pressure for them to take care of delicate electromechanical devices themselves or to package them properly or mark them fragile.
