Sanity Check pre-Migration CORE -> Scale (GUI or Fresh Install)

Hi, all. I’ve walked through the migration steps here: https://www.truenas.com/docs/scale/24.10/gettingstarted/migrate/migrateprep/

I just want to sanity check the best process for upgrading. I’m currently running this Version of CORE: TrueNAS-13.0-U6.8 and my intent is to migrate to SCALE from here. My understanding is that I may not want to migrate using the web interface GUI. Is that correct?

I have a number of trains available for me to switch to in the web interface. Is it safe to upgrade via the GUI by changing the train? If so, what version should I opt for (and if it fails, does the config backup still work with a fresh install?) Any reason to opt for one method over the other?

Thanks kindly for the great help yesterday with SED drive status identification. Any guidance very much appreciated!

You can do both, but updating from the gui has to be done in a certain order.

Thank you for that guide. That’s helpful. Is there any real reason to opt for one or the other? The only addition I plan to make at a certain point is to add a graphics card to this machine and it currently doesn’t have one. I’m hoping that’s more or less plug and play, but not expecting it to be.

If NVIDIA, check to see if your model is still supported on the current Scale releases.

Thanks for this, I was indeed planning on using an old Nvidia card, and that seems like it’s going to be out of the question, unfortunately. :sad_but_relieved_face:

There may be a workaround for NVIDIA. Check this thread, I think. NVIDIA compatible driver test for TrueNAS 25.10 “Goldeye”
