So I’m not a tech guy but put together a NAS for some file storage and redundancy recently. I’ve gotten all of the storage side of things working but am having trouble with the NAS connecting to the internet for updates and apps. It usually connects on startup and can use the update and the catalog after a restart but will eventually stop somewhere between 5 and 30minutes if it bothers to connects at all. More confusingly it will occasionally return to disappear again. I’ve no idea what is causing this and initially thought the IP was getting stolen by another device on network but reserving it in the router didn’t fix the issue.
I’m at my wits end as everything I’ve read from other posts isn’t relevant or doesn’t seem to help so I’m looking for a bit a guidance, or ideas as to a possible cause.

This sounds like a hardware issue, or possibly incorrectly setup network/bad ISP. It’s also not clear if this connectivity problem is limited to internet access, or if you’re also unable to connect locally to the system when it’s experiencing issues.
For someone to be able to assist one would, at a minimum, need to know what hardware is used and how it’s set up. Be detailed.
It would also be helpful to know which version of TrueNAS you’re using.
Thats an oldish system - not that that in itself is an issue.
Can you try a better network card - something by intel, preferably a server card rather than a shiny new workstation card.
New user here.
Just some insight, have you tried using your internal dns resolution or does truenas connect to the internet or some external network. Having that as 8.8.8.8 when you don’t need it might cause issues after a period of time. Maybe even as described.
Thanks.
