WebUI not logging in with Root password

I have the latest stable version of SCALE. I’m suddenly unable to log into the UI using root credentials. I tried changing administrator password. But that didn’t change anything. At least I can access the data on my network still.

The latest stable version of SCALE would use the truenas_admin user to login to the WebUI from a fresh install by default. If you upgraded from a previous SCALE version this may be admin however if you upgraded from CORE it would indeed be root. Your password is most likely correct but your username may well be wrong. You can always reset the password via the console if needed.

Used ChatGPT and found the solution to my problem. Root was not in ”builtin_administrators” group. I’m sure I did that….SOMEHOW.:man_facepalming:t2: Changed it back. And that solved the issue.

Glad you got it working. It’s worth noting for future readers of this thread that TrueNAS is trying to move away from using the root user to login to the WebUI and in TrueNAS SCALE / TrueNAS Community the admin user or more recently the truenas_admin user has been the default user to access the WebUI. You can also customise this once logged into the system essentially disabling the truenas_admin user and promoting one on your newly created local admin users to access the UI to tighten security even further.

So in short although this has solved your issue it’s not the recommended configuration.

Or in not-so-short
