Yikes I can no longer reach my Truenas scale

Hello all

**My truenas scale is installed as a vm on Proxmox 9.

Since my last rebuild all was fine and i was loading my media (one disk at the time) till 15:00 today.

at one point all my truenas mapped drives were unavailable.

I try to connect to my truenas via its IP address… no luck
I go to my proxmox environment and i reboot truenas.

Truenas is up and shows it’s ip address
I once again opened my browser and try to reach truenas…no joy

i reboot the entire server

wait for it to boot and try to connect to truenas without success

In the proxmox shell for truenas it shows that truenas is up using memory and has an ip address.

All my other vms and cts are up and working properly

what is left for me to do (before i foubar the hole system up mor that i already did)?

thank you in advance for your assistance

How do you have the TrueNAS VM set up in Proxmox? Do you have a HBA and are you passing through the entire controller? Did you blacklist the controller so Proxmox will not mount the TrueNAS ZFS system?

Thank you for your very prompt reply @SmallBarky

Yes i did set up truenas as a vm in proxmox and i did pass through all the drives to truenas.

now truenas in proxmox is started and i have an ip address.

However if i go to my router that ip address does not shou,up in my network map

Forgot to mentioned then truenas shell in proxmox does not recognise inputs from my keyboard
thank you for taking the time to respond

That is very strange. Have you changed something on Proxmox? And what do you mean with “since my last rebuild and loading my media”?

Thank you

3 weeks ago I fubared and erased all my data on both servers.

Luckily my personal data wa on a 3rd nas box.

My proxmox server was corrupted by a power failure

Hence i rebuilt it from bare metal with proxmox 8. Once up and running i updated to proxmox 9.

I installed all my VM (truenas, home assistant, opnsense(not active)) and cts
onc e everything up in proxmox I passed all the drives to truenas and the usbs to home assistant. That was 3 weeks ago.

Since then i have been loading all my media (454 cds, 110 DVD 160 LPs) . I have only done 60 cd to date.

To your point

No no changes to proxmox sine rebuild. No changes to truenas installation. Prior to this issue. I noticed that a dataset did not have a recycle bin. I edited the dataset and added the recycle bin. To ensure access i opened the dataset ACL and re accepted all the existing acl.

Then I rebooted truenas (from the truenas cli) and this is when all hell broke loose.

|I still have a mountain of media to load

Has this always been the case or did it work before the latest events?

Really do not know. never had to use the truenas vm shell.
in the pve and ha shell it the keyboard works.

I feel i must reinstall the truenas vm

Could you put another VM on the same subnet as the truenas vm on proxmox, and try to access from there first?

A power failure alone should not have caused this. There might be some other issue.

I don’t what caused your Proxmox issue, and I don’t know what caused your TrueNAS issue.

You could simply make a clean Proxmox 9 install, then make a clean TrueNAS install, passthrough the disk, and then reimport the pool.

I would highly recommend against using TrueNAS in a VM though. It makes stuff complicated. BTW same for OPNsense.

Thank you @smione

This is what i am starting to do this am.

So far i created the vm and when i fo to start it the installation shell will not accept my keyboard input.

Things are getting from bad to worse

I am trying a fresh/new install of truenas and once i have the vm configured and i start the vm the console gives me so many boot errors and no keyboard has access to the console regardless if the keyboard is connected to the server or if i’m trying to connect via a web interface from my desktop pc
