Black screen on boot Truenas Scale

I’m trying to install TrueNAS SCALE on a mini PC with an Intel N150 processor and Intel I226 network controllers. I have 32GB Puskill DDR5 RAM at 4800 MHz. When I boot from the installation media, I initially see a black screen with a blinking cursor, then the screen goes completely black without any cursor.

I’ve made the following changes in the BIOS:

  • Disabled Secure Boot
  • Disabled CSM
  • Forced UEFI mode
  • Network Stack is already disabled

I’ve tested both TrueNAS versions: 25.04.0 and 24.10.2.1, with the same results. I’ve also tried connecting the mini PC to two different displays (via HDMI and via DisplayPort).

Following some recommendations, I managed to get a bit further, seeing messages about loading the squashfs filesystem, with errors saying “Failed to open /dev/shm device, ignoring: Inappropriate ioctl for device”. After that, the screen goes black.

I’ve tried different USB ports and different USB drives created with Balena Etcher, but the issue persists. I specifically want to install TrueNAS SCALE and not any other distribution.

My motherboard includes 3 LAN ports (2× Intel I226 + 1× 10G), and it supports diskless startup. I’m looking for solutions to get TrueNAS SCALE installed on this hardware.
