I am relatively new to TrueNAS and FreeNAS and need to move the datasets (including some jails) from the FreeNAS 11.2 system to the TrueNAS 13 system so that I can decommission the FreeNAS. What is the best way to go about this?
Hi, you’ll need to follow the update path, first going to 11.3-U5 first then 12.0-U8.1 before moving to 13.0-U6.2 release
You can find the archived release notes and documentation for each release: Documentation Archive | TrueNAS Documentation Hub
And if needed, the download of prior versions:

Apologies if I was unclear. All I want to do is to move the datasets from old hardware running FreeNAS onto new hardware running TrueNAS. This is a data migration not a software upgrade.
Apologies, I misread your original post. is the other TrueNAS 13 system already setup and used for other things? Or will this be a fresh system?
That is possibly an issue, as you’ll need to go all the way to TrueNAS 13.3 to find a version of FreeBSD (13.4) that is still supported and can be downloaded to update the jails.
The TrueNAS 13 system is set up and empty datasets have been created in the tank pool. I have tested rsync and replication tasks with some of the datasets to see how those would work, but the system is basically ready to have the files from the old system moved to the corresponding datasets on the new. What I don’t know (being new to Free/TrueNAS) is whether anything more than syncing or replicating the files is required before retiring the old system.
