I upgraded from Core to Scale. After installed the Plex app I accidentally chose the Plex Media Server running on my PC so when I turned off the PC the server became unavailable. I deleted and reinstalled the Plex app but this time it doesn’t ask about the server setup so I don’t have the chance to make a new one. I know I’m dummy but please somebody tell what should I do. (In plain english if it’s possible. I’m obviously not a tech guru.) How could I set up a fresh Plex Media Server?
My Scale is a Dragonfish 24.04.
Then you really should upgrade to at least 24.10 before the end of this month. If you wait any longer than that, you’ll lose the ability to automatically migrate any of your apps.
Note that if you’re using any TrueCharts apps, they will go away; you should have been working on a migration plan for those at some point within the past year.
I was a Core user. And I’m a total amateur. I made my Core from a step by step guide and it worked flawlessly for a long-long time, then the Plex Server became outdated (according to the Android client) and in Core I can’t update the Plex plugin. I need to upgrade to Scale to have the new Plex app. Everything went fine until I started the fresh Plex app and chose my Plex Server in Win11. Since then I can’t use Plex.
Right, because iX never kept plugins up-to-date.
You need to upgrade to a modern SCALE–at least 24.10–to have a supported apps system. The apps system in 24.04 is completely different and has been unsupported almost since it was released. If you are in fact running 24.04 (and that isn’t a typo for 25.04), you need to upgrade, and if you have any other apps, you need to do it before the end of this month for those apps to have any chance of migrating to the new system.
“Connecting to TrueNAS… Make sure the TrueNAS system is powered on and connected to the network”. This is the message and once in while the sign-in window blinks on the background. I tried to upgrade to 25…
And it still works! But my original problem sustains…
I don’t even understand what’s going on any more. If you’re saying you’re now able to log into 25.04, and your question is still:
Then the answer is what I posted up-thread–see the guide at my wiki.

ow I’ve installed the Plex app to TrueNAS Scale but when I run the web UI I can’t add my media folder in server setup (libraries) because it doesn’t appear on the list. The Scale datasets, the Plex setup and the problem are on the pictures
. Where did I make the error?

@Babits_Peter, please slow down. It’s difficult to follow your posts.
I tried reading the thread from the start, but I have no idea what is going on.
Keep it simple without screenshots for now. Just state one problem a time.
What is the problem right now? What is it that you cannot do?
Sorry. I give it a try.
- I upgraded my my NAS from Core to Scale 25.04. I lost jails and plugins.
- Installed and set up the Plex app (see screenshots).
- After some missteps in the web UI I’ve made a new Plex Media Server.
The problem: I can’t add my media (in the libraries) because it doesn’t appear on the list.
I can only provide info on what’s wrong based on your screenshots, as mentioned above this is really scattered about.
Your current setup:
Plex Data: MyPool/plex/data
Plex Config: MyPool/plex/config
Plex Logs: MyPool/plex/storage
Plex Transcode: MyPool/plex/transcode
Where is your media stored on TrueNAS? Have you added a host path for this in the ‘Additional Storage’ section?
I also noticed the claim token field is empty. Have you gone through the claim process?
There’s no need for this. I mean, you can, but you don’t need to. Point “plex data” to whatever directory/dataset houses your media and be done with it.
Your media folder is intended to be (if you’d looked at the guide I posted in my first reply to this thread) the “plex data” path. Whatever’s in there (in MyPool/plex/data
, so that’s where your media should be) is mounted at /data
inside plex. As, again, I explained in the guide linked in my first reply in this thread.
Considering MyPool/plex/data
was already configured & their media folder doesn’t show up, I’d assumed[1] they had read your guide and had pre-existing media in another location (from the core->scale migration) they wanted to add in addition to the dataset they’d created, though more than likely just me reading too much into it
When you assume… ↩︎
Fair enough. In OP’s case, the MyPool/Media
dataset should probably just be mounted as the “plex data” location, as there’s nothing in plex/data
. But, as you say, it’s certainly possible to have media in multiple locations.
