Setting up Plex for TrueNAS - is there a guide for complete beginners?

Hello all, I just set up my TrueNAS scale server With SMB and some data on my hard drives, with (I think) one pool and two datasets. But I’m trying to set up Plex and I’m at a loss. All the guides and documentation I’ve seen on how to do this seem incomplete and heady, and I’m just a beginner at both TrueNAS and Linux based operating systems in general.

Is there a complete, step by step guide? All I want to do is have the folders of media on my NAS be viewable and manageable through Plex, that’s about 99% of my use case.

Have you tried to install Plex from the Apps page? The installation is very straightforward so if you have any questions please raise them.

Also, if you want something more advanced but guided you have this video from Jailmaker. At the Jellyfin part, use Plex and follow the example.

I had installed it through the apps page, and it does say it’s running but when you open up the Plex web UI, it will not see my NAS drives, only the local drives on my desktop. It’s possible it’s just a configuration issue, but I have seen no guide on how to actually do that and I don’t know what 70% of the settings mean.

Are you getting into your Plex via http://truenasIP:32400? It’s very strange you see your Desktop HDD.

Is it possible to you send some screenshots?

Specifically, can you send a screenshot of how you have the Storage Configuration section of the Plex app settings set up on TrueNAS?
