Hello everyone I am having problems connecting to my Truenas scale server
Everything was working ok until today I was meet this this message,
The web interface could not be accessed Please check your network configuration. I am not sure what’s going on but I would really hate to have to install scale over again. any help is much appreciated
Welcome! Any hardware details & TrueNAS version are appreciated. Any chance you have access to your NAS either remotely or physically? If so, is it actually responsive? What are your network configurations?
If you need to post screenshots - you’ll find that you have a private message from a BOT that gives you a tutorial on how to use the forums; once that is complete you should be able to post pictures/links.
System specs:
Intel(R) Core™ i3-4150 CPU @ 3.50GHz
Running: TrueNAS Scale ElectricEel-24.10.2.2
Mother board: Asrock 450
CPU: 3.50GHz
Ram: 24 GB
So after trying to figure out what’s happing with my NAs system, I see the connection keeps dropping. I tried changing the Ethernet cable and changing the different ports on my router but the problem still exist
The funny thing is that as I type this I am able to load up my Nas server I was able to create a snapshot for safe keeping, but I am sure if I shut the system off and try to boot it again with will not allow me access.
I am thinking it might be the network card that might be bad. What are your thoughts thanks is advanced
Do you have access to a spare monitor and keyboard?
If yes, please attach it to the server and check out the console.
Another question is, whether or not, you can ssh into the server?
And, the final one is, did you try restarting it?
Thank you for the fast reply, I have another monitor and keyboard connected. I can see the console info
You: you can ssh into the server?
I am assuming you mean connect to to the server using file explorer correct? answer is no
Yes when I restart the server it is a hit and miss connection, sometimes it connect and will not
I am trying to Map my Ip so I can connect to my Nas server
please, check the IP from the console, if that is matching the one you try to connect to in your browser.
Also, try pinging the IP from another machine.
Here is the results for the ping, things look ok

Note:
I am going to try and explain what I have done with this system. When I could not access the Nas server I inserted a USB drive with TrueNas I attempted to do a clean installation. After that when I was trying to create pools it gave me a option to import my old pools so I did. I think maybe there’s something wrong with the SMB shares
The way I’m currently understanding things - please correct me if my timeline is wrong:
- You had an issue & you were completely unable to connect to the server, including the webgui at http://192.168.1.179
- You then intermittently were able to connect, but it kept dropping, even after troubleshooting ethernet cable/ports on router
- You did a clean install & re-imported existing pools
- You are currently able to reach your NAS via ping & the webgui, but you are unable to access your files from other systems
If my understanding is correct, and currently you’re able to access the webgui, but not your SMB shares, then my first question is: before you did a clean install, did you backup the config file? After the clean install, did you upload the config file?
If you did not backup & reload the config file, then your SMB shares weren’t saved, and you’ll have to remake them
Hello and thank you for your help with this. Unfortunately I don’t remember backing up my config files I only created a snapshot of my nas… I exported my pools and that’s it
But it still having trouble connecting to my Nas it will connect for a short time and then drop. I am also having a lot of interruptions from my internet provider so it’s hard to fix anything
Alright - solid chance that you’ll have to rebuild your SMB shares entirely
As far as the drop-outs in being able to reach your NAS, do you see anything in the console massages? If you don’t have those enabled, you can go to settings > General > GUI> Show Console Messages > Checkmark
It might give a hint on what is causing the drop-outs. Otherwise if your NAS uptime is stable & it isn’t rebooting randomly & it is only your connection to the NAS on your network that is failing… maybe it is your network card.
Thank you for the help I am trying to wait until my internet is a bit more stable and I will have a look. As for the network card that was my thought also.
I will be unmounting my Nas from under my work space and see what card I need to buy… I will let you know how it goes BIG thanks
How would I know the correct network card to get?
To check the speed, you can open up a terminal window and use ping with the -t switch. That will keep pinging the server indefinitely, and you can see, if the server does not reply to it.
If you keep that window opened in the background, you can check it when the WebUI is not available.
(your ping will slow down, or even will drop packages.)
With the help of the members here at The forum I was able to pinpoint my problem. It was my network card which I have changed now and everything seems to be running and connecting okay but I still have to do some configurations to my SMB. I want to thank each and everyone to use for your help I do appreciate it I will mark this as solved.
