A couple years ago my roommate setup a TrueNAS for me so i could store my STL files n whatnot on a large server.
Recently, the mobo died on that thing. The drives themselves seem fine, so i bought a new mobo/cpu/ram and rehooked it up.
It booted up fine, but its not seeing my network. At all. When i try to select a network to configure theres nothing to select. Ive tried connecting it to the mobo directly and the ethernet addon we used before.
The big problem is said roommate moved several states away last year, so hes not available to help figure out whats going on. Im not illiterate when it comes to computers but i have never seen this kind of interface before.
All the help posts ive seen related to network seem to be more along the lines of being unable to configure it or not configuring it right, not it doesnt exist in the first place.
I dont know where to even begin trying to figure out whats going on. Also not sure what information i need to provide (or how to get it) to get help.
The mobo/cpu i bought was an ASUS Prime B760 LGA 1700 with an Intel Core i3-14100 4.7Ghz proc. 32gb of DDR5 ram in 2 sticks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i cannot access any of my 3Dprinter stuff right now lol
Also i apologize if this is the wrong place, i didnt see a “Help center” type area.
Welcome to the Forums! Sorry you are having troubles…
You’ll have to help us to help you. Please describe your network setup as comprehensively as you can - devices in it including the gateway, is the network functional, what devices can communicate with what, anything you can think of.
In particular -
what is “it” in the above, and what is “the ethernet addon”?

When i try to select a network to configure theres nothing to select.

where/how are you trying to select a network?
Something I should have asked first - what version of TrueNAS are you using - Core or Scale and the version number, please?
This is just a very very wild guess given the information you’ve provided:
After googling: The Mainboard has a realtek 2.5Gb network card
Asumption 1: You’re using a version of truenas core.
Asumption 2: That is the reason why it’s not getting a connection, because the realtek driver is disabled on core due to a data corruption bug.
Apologies as my knowledge of linux based systems is very limited.
Cracked open the computer to look at any markings on it.
Says its a Realtek network interface controller pci-express 100m/1g/2.5g(pxe)v2
No other numbers on the card unfortunately. It was in the computer on the previous mobo i had and was being used so i assume thats not a problem.
Ive tried to poke around via the shell command and the best ive been able to find is /etc/version tells me
“TrueNAS-13.0-U6.4(5021f909d2)”
I also see “FreeBSD” mentioned a lot but never with a version number.
When the machine first boots up theres a list of commands, one of them is “Configure network interface”
My old roommate told me to check that and theres nothing listed. Basically on my own from then on.
How do i tell if im using TrueNAS Core? Im assuming not since the ethernet adapter i was using with the previous mobo is a realtek one. That or my roommate found a way to bypass that problem previously.
Thank you for your responses btw. I know its frustrating when people asking for help dont give much info, but im basically completely blind.
