Via USB Drive → can I than do it via EFI Shell?
It needs to be installed on Windows or Linux
The label linux_raid_member
indicates that the QNAP probably used Linux’s MD-RAID software which is not compatible with TrueNAS.
Now some people think that because TrueNAS SCALE / CE uses Linux under the hood, it MUST support MD-RAID and all the available Linux file systems. But, the way TrueNAS is developed, it’s an Appliance type software. Not meant to be a more general Linux distro that is for NAS uses. So things like MD-RAID won’t work.
If you truly need to get data off the disks, you will have to do it manually from a normal Linux distro. While some people here in the TrueNAS forums could help, they may not have time or energy to go far off topic.
So basically boot from a Ubuntu Live for example?
In your photo the HBA card does not have enough cooling. Add a fan blowing direct on the cards heatsink. These cards will easily overheat under load without additional direct cooling.
Which heatsink will you recommend? How to connect it ?
You are on a server chassis with good fans and airflow? HBA cards usually recommend 150 to 200 LFPM (linear feet per minute) of air flow across the cards. True server hardware and fans should be fine. Just making sure you didn’t turn down fans for noise or remove any. I don’t see anything odd in IMG_3303. It’s showing at least 4 Ultraflow fans. Cover should be on server when running.
Yep, Supermicro CSE-829U Server ( board is Supermicro X10DRU-I+with 4 Fans.
Will be put into a Rack with 8 Noctual Coolers.
So, I don’t need an extra Shroud plus Fan?
If you think you have the specified air flow over the HBA, then you should be fine.
This is an example of what someone did for HBA cooling
Those types of ‘fixes’ are aimed at HBA cards not in a server chassis that has full server chassis air flow. People putting HBA cards in PC cases or attempting to stuff them in a mITX system. I don’t think you should have problems unless you replaced the system fans with quiet, low flow models. Your server should be noisy and have excellent cooling. How much air is getting pushed through your chassis? Is the intake air cool and within specs for the environment or are you in a hot room without A/C?
No, it the originl noisy fans at full speed.
Can I see how much via IPMI?
The rack is very cool and in an own room on cellar level.

Probably that will work.
Edit: You’ve responded seconds before I did.
As I said, you would have to do the work manually. I don’t have the command line parameters handy.
You might just check and see if MD-RAID already assembled them for you. Use cat /proc/mdstat
to see, (though I don’t think so…).
So I now now that sdd, sde, sdg, sdh, sdi , sdj , sdk , sdl are my 8 seagate ironwolf. But trying to understand how to now continue to get access to the data of that old raid from my dead QNAP
Sorry, I just don’t have the time. Perhaps someone else here or a more general purpose Linux RAID forum could help.
