I hope I’m posting in the right place. I have a question regarding ElectricEel. I was using it on one of my TrueNAS servers as a backup while transitioning to this server. However, I accidentally crashed the server and wanted to download a newer version of ElectricEel. Unfortunately, I could only find the community version for TrueNAS.
Has ElectricEel been discontinued, or is TrueNAS shifting entirely to the community version? I know I haven’t been around for a while, but I want to ensure that the version I’m using will continue to receive updates without the need to switch to another version.

I see the ElectricEel version on there but are they moving into the community truenas? I don’t want to download ElectricEel if it is going to be discontinued. I’m trying to determine if the community is the way to go now.
It’s just a name change for the free versions of Truenas. Electric eel is the codename for the release of October 24, the current release is fangtooth from April 25. The next release, goldeye is scheduled for next month. You’re basically behind a full release. Electric eel will not get any updates anymore. Just update to 25.04

is the Truenas community the same as ElectricEel? I just want to make sure I am downloading the right one? So, are all the name changes all Community Truenas OS?
Truenas has two options:
The enterprise version which ships with hardware purchased by IXSystems and the free community edition you can download and use for free.
Electric eel is one version of truenas community edition released in October of 2024. If you download and install it you can use it as is. The truenas webui will show that there’s an update available to the current release of fangtooth from April 2025.
Or you can directly download fangtooth and use it.
Simplified, think of electric eel as android 14 and fangtooth as android 15. You can still use android 14 on your phone but it will show an update to the newer version is available.
