After updating from TrueNAS-25.04.2.4 to TrueNAS-25.10-BETA.1 my plex app no longer detects NVIDIA card! Is anyone else having this problem and is there any solution to my problem?
Which nvidia card do you use? 25.10 gets updated to a newer nvidia driver that sadly no longer supports older nvidia gpus. Anything below a 1660 (i believe) won’t work anymore out of the box.
See
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
That’s one of the cards that is no longer supported by the driver 25.10 uses
Thanks for the info.
Someone alrady found a workaround, depending on your technical skill you may look at it
I don’t think I have enough knowledge for that! Would the GeForce RTX 3050 8GB be good enough (I have it in another computer)?
Yes that would work, you could also look into something like an nvidia t400 if you need low profile and want lower power consumption. My t400 idles at 15W and goes up to around 50 when transcoding. Drawback is that it can only handle 4 simultanious streams at once.
RTX 30-series is Ampere so it will work.
If you’re not committed to Team Green, the Intel ARC A310/A380 is another viable option for video transcoding duties - won’t do CUDA workloads of course.
Not to mention that NOT upgrading is also a valid, and cost-free, solution.
Works for me, I see no point in spending extra yet, maybe for 26.04 or later with a new Linux kernel
Agreed, I think I’m gonna stick with 25 for a while. I’ve been using my Tesla P4 cards for a few years now and they are working very well for encoding offload with Plex. I see no reason to upgrade until the T4s come down in price significantly.
