Wrong username or password. Please try again (wracking my brains on this)

Hello everyone

I have done a new install, ive recently upgrade my nas and decided to do a new install.

When i did the inital set up, i started up the GUI on my computer and it said “Wrong username or password. Please try again.”. I have hooked the nas up to a monitor again and changed the password, again “Wrong username or password. Please try again.”

Heres what ive tried so far:

  • I tried what this link suggested and checked NTLMv1 wasn’t on
  • I disabled my password manager
  • I removed several programs which might have been interfering like syncthing and tailscale
  • I checked windows credentials and removed older truenas ones

I am at a loss as to what to do next. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you for reading

So depending on which TrueNAS version you came from the username could be root, admin or truenas_admin.

Have you tried all of those options with your password?

Ah, forgive me. That’s quite important information I’ve left out there.

I’m on the latest stable version of scale.

I have tried those ones yes. I also tried my pass word as case sensitive and not case sensitive on all three.

I have also checked the keyboard I typed the password on the nas and there is no difference

So just to be clear is the issue logging into the Web UI to manage your TrueNAS?

Ntlm/password manager ecc, afaik, are not related to access TN via web GUI.

This Is quite odd. Why not try a different keyboard?

What is your keyboard layout?
Some mess with Y and Z (among others)
Also 0 (zero).
Please avoid using those since they can cause so much problems.

Yes

Good idea. I’ll give it a go when I get home today.

It’s just strange that it’s happened on two passwords

I did check the keyboard but to be sure I’ll test again tonight and be really meticulous about it

It’s not clear from your posts whether you’re trying to authenticate to the webui or a share.

If I remember correctly, there used to be a bug in some of the old versions that the keyboard layout was hard wired US in some places, and did not change, even, if you changed it during the install.
(also even if you changed it in your shell, it was not permanent, when you did it through a command, but maybe if you changed a config file… But this was a long time ago, and I did not have problems with that ever since)

Also the keyboard itself can puzzle you… I have a keyboard that change some some digit if bloc num Is on, and can be automatically turned on by the BIOS if Is not disabled

My apologies

I am trying to log into the web GUI. I have recently upgraded my nas and reinstalled on my SSD. I’m wondering if my PCs connection to the previous

Sincerely sorry for wasting everyone time

Turns out there is a key broken on one of my keyboards. I appreciate you all trying to help. This is a wonderful community
